Blog Income Report - January 2017 - Detailed report on goals, income, expense and future ideas

Digital Media Education – Income Report for January

I recently decided to take my blogging seriously. I’ve done it as a part time hobby for the last 3 ½ years with my main blog, Daily Successful Living.

In December 2016 I decided that it was time to make some changes and see if I could actually make money with my blogs.

I function best when I’m goal oriented and have accountability partners. This income report will help with both.

My goal with this website has always been to share everything I’ve learned (both good and bad) while creating my website. As I try and ramp-up and actually make money, we’ll see how much the new skills I learn can help you guys.

Before I could really start implementing changes, I felt that a lot of clean-up needed to be done on my main site. Virtually all of my goals for January were focused on updating Daily Successful Living.

Goals for January – With status update:

  • Daily Successful Living
    • Completely redesign my website and update all menus – Done! This took hours and hours of my time and was my main focus for January. I hope that the new look and feel and easier navigation will help keep people on my site for longer.
    • Update at least 10 of my highest traffic posts
      • Check for updated SEO (using Long Tail Pro).
      • Redo graphics and make sure all Alt Tags, categories and tags are correct
      • Update internal links
      • I was actually able to update 12 of the posts. This was another very time-consuming project that will most likely take me a couple of months to complete. If you haven’t looked through your old posts recently I highly recommend taking this step. I was amazed at how many mistakes I found. It also was a great way to refresh my memory of my content and I was able to add a lot of internal links.
    • Post at least twice per week
      • I have no idea how I managed, but I was able to do 10 posts in January. They were long posts that I’m hoping will really draw attention to my blog.
    • Social Media – Mainly on hold as I concentrate on updating the blog
      • See below for updates on Social Media.
    • Digital Media Education
      • On hold, while updating DSL
      • Although I was on hold I was able to publish 3 posts.
    • Camping Education
      • On hold, while updating DSL
      • Although I was on hold I was able to publish 1 post.
    • Overall goals for all sites
      • Check out other avenues for advertising – Media net?
        • I contacted Media.net and signed up for their contextual ads. I implemented them on all of my websites by the 6th and had enough traffic to make $7.04 for the month. Unfortunately, I won’t see this money until I hit their threshold but thought it was a good starting point.
      • Use Social Jukebox for DSL and DME pages on Facebook
        • I added all of my Digital Media Education posts to their auto system and am about half way through my Daily Successful Living posts.
      • Develop a cohesive strategy for Instagram
        • I didn’t get very far with this one. I’m just really struggling with what to do on Instagram. I love photography, so you would think this is a no-brainer, but I’m just not sure it is a viable platform for me. For now, I’m going to move this into February.
